Entry from: Arabba, Italy Entry Title: "Snowboarding the Dolomites" Entry: "We wanted to see some snow-capped mountains so headed to northern Italy (retracing our route a little) to see the Dolomites. With little reference on where to stay we picked a spot off the Internet and went. Lucky for us it was right at the base of 5 lifts up to ski slopes- we had thought about trying to go snowboarding but weren't sure it would work out, but with it right there just had to try. Caroline was going for the first time, and needed some gear- I was able to get by with only buying gloves, socks, and pant liners. Unfortunately I didn't think to recommend that Caroline get kneepads on the very first day... and there were no lessons available on the first day... so I tried to teach what little I could. It went well until we went up the lift and tried to tackle the run, which had very bad snow (hard icy and packed with just a little brush of loose snow) and resulted in badly banged up knees and butt. But she was able to take lessons the next day and tackled another run on the third day. The mountains themselves were very impressive, many sheer rock faces and tooth like edges scratching up into the sky. There wasn't much snow left and most of the snow off the trails had melted, but the mountains were still an impressive ...

TransAm Snowboarding 2011: Otsego, MI

www.zumiez.com The Otsego Club in Gaylord, Michigan set the stage for the third stop of the TransAm. It was a warm Saturday afternoon and the competitors had arrived excited and ready to rock. It was time to turn up the amps to eleven, and let the show begin. The TransAM course layout was made up of six unique features built and collaboratively designed by the Otsego Club park crew and event sponsors. At the top of the course, Vitamin Water set up the perfect drop zone, where riders could hydrate before ripping up the course. Thanks to clever new flavors like "Stur-D", the riders kept better balance steering clear of dehydration. The first line started off with the High Cascade Snowboard Camp snow bus. Its exhaust pipe was blowing out a smokescreen like you wouldn't believe. Riders had to shoot through the blinding cloud, onto the butter snow bus, and launch off the other side. The other option was to ride up the side of this jib-tastic bus, and slide the top of it. So many ways to jib, so little time. After a wild smoky bus ride competitors found themselves on the tropical Ride Snowboards "Wish You Were Here" island. The picture perfect postcard scene saw competitors hitting this step-up jump and going huge, with three different transitions to choose from. We even saw a double backie stomped. The media was going nuts bagging postcard shot after postcard shot. The Coal Headwear snow beanie was another popular feature. Have you ever seen a beanie shaped of snow? Try ...
