Winter Sports Clothing Informational Video by CIRP
Winter can be a time of great fun. There are a lot of activities for families to do outside to enjoy the snow such as skiing, snowboarding, ice skating and sledding. When headed out, remember to wear appropriate clothing. • Dress your child warmly. It is easy for kids to focus on playing and forget how cold it can be, so make sure they have enough layers to beat the cold such as a winter coat, hat, gloves and slip-resistant boots. • Have kids wear a hat that covers their ears; this will help protect them from frostbite. • Hands and feet can become especially cold when playing outside in the winter, so make sure their gloves and boots are made of good material that will stay warm and dry. • Make sure the outer layer of clothes is made from a material that does not absorb water. Snow pants and many winter jackets are designed to keep you dry as well as warm. • Remember that frostbite can happen when kids are outside for too long, especially if their clothes get wet. Limit time outside during cold weather and have them change their clothes if wet. For more information on Winter Sports Safety, visit the resource library on our website at InjuryCenter.org
